Glass, water, helium, balloons, and 1500ft of monofilament

1500'H x 18"W x 18"D

Three parts of a goblet; the foot, the stem and the bowl are scattered at the bottom of a glass tank which is filled three quarters with water. Five hundred meters of monofilament snakes through the parts of the goblet upwards out of the box to a spool then through two steel loops and out of the gallery to the outside to a pair of three-foot biodegradable latex baloons filled with helium. The balloons are released into the air causing the monofilament to unwind rapidly from the spool until it reaches its end at which point the three parts of the goblet are pulled together to form the image of a completed goblet. The pressures of being under the water halts the rise of the goblet part way up the tank suspending its animation...temporarily. Eventually the cup rises and halts once again temporarily at the surface of the water while the water inside the cup slowly drains from the tiny hole in the bottom until it is pulled out of the water against the top of the tank where it appears to be stuck to the surface. Over time as the balloons either lose their helium or pop, the cup parts will sink back to the bottom of the tank.
