For Another Harvest of the Sky (2021)

Mylar and wood, [Temporary outdoor installation at Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY, in collaboration with Ayumi Ishii] 18' x 38' x 7'

Sections of Shiroyone Senmaida rice terrace in Ishikawa, Japan, were transported onto the terraced roof of the Luther Barn in the valley of Wassaic, melding surrounding landscape with architecture. The terraced paddy is a common farming method found in valleys, and flooding with water in springtime signals the beginning of rice farming season, a transition marked by a sudden reflection of the sky amongst the landscape when the ground becomes fields of mirror. It is an attempt to share the feeling of anticipation and wonder as a metaphoric harvesting or gathering of the sky.
